Audi MMI 2g maps update

Audi MMI 2G maps update is performed with a DVD stored navigation database. Maps update procedure is simple, does not require any diagnostic tools what so ever.

Tools

  • Update DVD for your region, examples:
    • Europe DVD 2015: 4E0 060 884 DT
    • Russia DVD 2015: 4E0 060 884 EF
    • North America DVD 2015: 4E0 060 884 DS
    • Australia and New Zealand DVD 2014: 4E0 060 884 DQ

Preparation

Audi MMI 2G maps update

  1. Open your cars trunk and locate navigation DVD drive. It can be under the trunk floor or on the side, hidden behind trunk trim.
  2. Press “eject” and take out old navigation DVD.
  3. Insert new disk.
  4. Turn the ignition on and wait for the new disk to be recognized by Audi MMI 2G system.
  5. When asked (“New navigation software is available. Install?”), confirm that you want to update navigation database.
  6. Wait couple minutes for the software to be installed.
  7. When update is complete, press RETURN to reboot Audi MMI 2G system. Now your navigation maps are up to date.

  • I would like to ask as i do have 2 discs one is west europe other is east. And i can install them only one at time. Then i put west it updates then only west europe is on screen i tryed to insert east after it wants again update map and it does with no problems and then it only shows east europe. I dont understand how i do install both discs to have full europe.

    • You can’t.
      When you insert navigation disc it does not copy the map to your system. Navigation is reading the map from the disc in real time. DVD discs capacity is limited and Audi was forced to release 2-CD set and since navigation is reading maps in real time from the DVD you need to swap discs when traveling, for example from Poland to Holland.

    Great tutorial video. One question on the maps installation. I’ve got an Audi A5 2008. I’ve read online that when installing the new maps eg 2015 or the newly released 2016 maps, these need to be activated by Audi before they will work.

    From your video this doesn’t look to be the case but I was wondering if you could provide any further info on this?

    • If you have MMI 2G system, then you don’t need any kind of activation. Just change the DVD disk.
      cars with MMI 3G system require activation.

  • I have an issue with my 2006 Q7, using the VCD the Sat Nav will not unlock, is there another way to get the disc out?

  • Where is the Navigation DVD drive located in a 2010 A4 Avant wagon?
    I cannot located it in the wagon “trunk” area behind either left or right side pop out panels and it doesn’t appear that there would be room for it on either side below in the spare wheel well. I have not been able to find any references on the internet to the Nav DVD location in an Avant wagon. Thank you for your help!

    • If you have 2010 A4 you might have MMI 3G system with hard disk instead of the DVD drive in the trunk that was installed in MMI 2G systems.

  • I have a 2008 A6 Avant Allroad. My satnav is behind the left side panel in the rear. I can’t seem to get a response when I press the eject button to get the old disc out. I have an updated disc I want to load. Any suggestions please?

    • There’s something like eject button lock. You need diagnostic interface to disable this locking feature.

    • You don’t need software update to run new maps. Everything that is needed to run new maps is already on the maps DVD and will be installed if needed when you insert disc.

    My MMI 2G navigation SW version is 4.2.20. Do I need to perform the update to the latest version 5.5.70 before running new maps?

    • No. Everything you need is on the DVD with maps and will be installed automatically if needed.

  • Hi I have tried updating from a 2005 map to a 2014, I am still running the original MMI version that came with the car. when i first put the new DVD in the reader it only partially installed it. So I replaced it with the original 2005 DVD which reinstalled correctly. I then tried to install the 2014 DVD but this time the drive would not read the disk at all. please note that this is an official Audi disk. Do you have any suggestions as to how i can get over this problem

    • I would start with replacing the disk at Audi dealers.
      Also you can try upgrading MMI firmware to make sure that this is not caused by old program.

  • I am running 5570, and I launched the update of the maps to the 2017 version on the MMI 2G. However, the map DVD update got stuck at 89%, the system rebooted and the whole navi is gone… I cannot access the navigation control module through VCDS and MMI says “Navigation is not installed”. Did I just brick my DVD drive? The DVD is stuck in the drive.

    Is there any way to reload the maps? Any help is appreciated :)
